The bottom line
Holafly sells data-only travel eSIMs with unlimited data, priced by the day, from an Irish company with 24/7 support by chat, WhatsApp and email. It is simple to buy and well reviewed in the app stores. The trade-offs: hotspot is capped at 1 GB a day, unlimited data can be slowed under the operators' fair use rules, and there is no phone number on trip plans (as of October 2026).
Best for: Travellers who want unlimited data for a trip with no data maths, and who mostly use the phone itself rather than sharing its connection.
How we scorePros
- Unlimited data on almost every plan, sold by the day, so you pay for the length of your trip rather than a data size
- Run by Holafly Limited, a company registered in Ireland, with terms governed by Irish law and Irish consumer rights
- Support by live chat, WhatsApp and email, 24/7 according to its contact page
- Full refund of an eSIM that has not been activated, if you ask within 6 months of buying
- Validity starts when the eSIM connects at your destination, not when you install it, so you can set it up at home
- Since September 2026 an installed eSIM is reusable: new days and destinations attach to it without a new QR code
Cons
- Hotspot is limited to 1 GB a day, so it is not a good fit for sharing a connection with a laptop or a group
- Unlimited data falls under the operators' fair use policy, which can slow your speed for up to a day after heavy use
- Trip plans are data only, with no local phone number, calls or texts
- Once your plan has started, a refund is decided case by case and may carry an administrative fee
- Its own pages disagree on some details, such as how many times you can reinstall an eSIM and when top-ups ended (October 2026)
Prices and value
Holafly prices its trip plans by the number of days rather than by data size. Almost every plan comes with unlimited data, and on most destinations you choose any length of trip, each day adding to the price. The price block beside this section shows its current prices per country.
Because the data is unlimited, the value depends on how you use it. A traveller who streams, uploads photos or works online every day gets more from a flat daily price than one who only checks maps and messages, who may pay less with a plan that has a fixed amount of data.
Holafly also sells monthly subscriptions, Holafly Plans, billed monthly, quarterly or yearly and covering many destinations under one plan. You can cancel them at any time, and its plans page says a subscription can be refunded within 14 days if it has not been used.
Coverage and networks
Holafly sells country, regional and worldwide eSIMs, including cruise eSIMs for routes such as the Mediterranean or Alaska. The country block beside this section shows where its plans work.
It does not run its own network. Each destination page names the local partner networks your eSIM can join, and regional pages list each country with its networks. Holafly says it uses 5G where the partner network offers it, with 4G and LTE elsewhere.
Its help centre explains that your traffic may be routed through another country, so websites may see a foreign IP address. That is common for travel eSIMs, but it can matter for banking apps or streaming services that check where you are.
Plans and flexibility
Trip plans give unlimited data with no phone number. Its terms say unlimited data is subject to each operator's fair use policy, and its pages say a slowdown applies for no more than one day. You also cannot use a trip plan in your home country, and a single stay in one destination is limited to 90 days.
Hotspot is allowed but capped: you can share 1 GB a day, so a 7-day plan includes 7 GB of sharing. Its help centre says the limit protects the network and can vary by destination.
Since 30 September 2026 Holafly eSIMs are reusable. If you buy with the same email address, new days or a new destination attach to the eSIM already on your phone. Its terms also add Always On, a free 1 GB every 30 days that keeps you connected after a plan ends while the eSIM stays installed.
Buying, setup and the app
Your phone must be unlocked and support eSIM, and Holafly links to a compatibility checker before you buy. It accepts cards, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and shows prices in many currencies. No ID check is mentioned for its trip plans.
Holafly advises installing the eSIM at least a day before you travel. The plan starts when the phone connects at your destination; on recent iPhones, installing it can also start the plan. The eSIM is tied to the first phone it is installed on and cannot be moved to another one.
The Holafly app is published by Holafly Limited on iOS and Android. As of October 2026 it was rated 4.8 out of 5 on both the US App Store and Google Play. Recent complaints mention connection trouble on arrival or at borders, slow speeds and confusion about extending a plan, and Holafly answers reviews publicly.
Support and refunds
Its contact page offers 24/7 support by web chat, WhatsApp and email at help@holafly.com, plus chat through its social media accounts.
Its refund policy gives a full refund for an eSIM that has not been activated and was bought directly from Holafly, if you ask within 6 months. If the QR code was never scanned because your phone turned out to be locked or incompatible, you also get your money back. Once a plan is active, Holafly looks at each case and may refund part or all of it, minus an administrative fee of 3.50 US dollars.
For connection problems, contact support during your trip: its policy ties refunds for poor service to having reported the problem while travelling. Its terms also give you a 14-day right to cancel and the remedies of Irish consumer law.
Is Holafly legit?
Yes. Its terms name Holafly Limited, a private company registered in Ireland with its office in Dublin, as the seller, and the same company publishes its apps. Its about page says the business started in 2017 and launched its eSIM in the summer of 2018.
Its track record is public: its apps are rated highly on both stores and Holafly replies to reviews. The main points to know before buying are the daily hotspot cap, the fair use rule on unlimited data and the lack of a phone number on trip plans.
How we score providers
Each review scores price per GB against the other providers we compare (35%), coverage (20%), plan flexibility (15%), terms such as ID checks, hotspot and refunds (15%), and the app and support (15%). Holafly: questions travellers ask
Is Holafly legit?
Yes. Holafly Limited is a company registered in Ireland, its terms are governed by Irish law, and it publishes its own apps on iOS and Android, rated 4.8 out of 5 on both stores as of October 2026.
Is Holafly data really unlimited?
Yes, on almost every plan, but it is subject to the local operator's fair use policy. Holafly says the speed may be reduced after heavy use, for no more than one day at a time.
Does Holafly allow hotspot?
Yes, up to 1 GB a day, so the total you can share grows with the length of your plan. Its help centre says the limit can vary by destination.
Does a Holafly eSIM come with a phone number?
No. Trip plans are data only. You can still use apps such as WhatsApp for calls and messages over data.
When does a Holafly plan start?
When your phone connects to a network at your destination, not when you install the eSIM. On recent iPhones, installing it can also start the plan, so check the setup guide before you travel.
Can I add days to my Holafly eSIM?
Yes. Since 30 September 2026 Holafly eSIMs are reusable: buy more days or a new destination with the same email address and it attaches to the eSIM already on your phone.
Can I get a refund from Holafly?
If the eSIM has not been activated, you get a full refund when you ask within 6 months of buying. Once a plan is active, Holafly decides case by case and may charge an administrative fee.
