The bottom line
Orange Travel is the travel eSIM shop of the French operator Orange. It sells data-only plans and plans with a French or Polish phone number, calls and texts, with unlimited hotspot and 24/7 chat support. The trade-offs: every line must be registered with an ID check within 30 days under French law, and a top-up restarts your validity instead of adding days (as of October 2026).
Best for: Travellers who want a phone number with calls and texts as well as data, from a large operator, and who are happy to upload an ID after buying.
How we scorePros
- Run by the French telecom group Orange, with French legal terms and a registered company behind the shop
- Plans with a phone number, calls and texts as well as data-only plans, and incoming texts never use your allowance
- Hotspot is allowed with no limit on how much you share, according to its help centre
- Support by live chat, in the app and by email, 24/7 according to its help centre
- Refund if the plan has not been used, including when your trip is cancelled or the eSIM was installed but never turned on
- Pay by Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal or Link, and reuse the same eSIM for a later trip by topping it up
Cons
- Every line must be registered with an ID card or passport within 30 days, or it is suspended; verification can take up to 10 days
- A top-up starts a new validity period, so the days left on your current plan are lost if you top up early
- You need an account to buy, and the QR code installs once on one device only
- Its terms of sale read as a reseller's terms for top-ups, say recharges are not refundable and ask for complaints by registered post
- The Android app is rated lower than the iOS app, with reviews mentioning a number from another country and dropped connections (October 2026)
Prices and value
Orange Travel sells prepaid plans with no contract or subscription. Prices include VAT and are shown in euros or US dollars. The price block beside this section shows its current prices per country.
Its app listing says plans run for a set number of days and come in data-only or data, calls and texts versions. A plan with a phone number usually costs more than data alone, so check whether you need calls and texts before you buy.
Top-ups are where the value can slip. Each top-up adds data but restarts your validity, so buying one with days still left on your plan throws those days away. Its help centre advises topping up on the last day of a plan or once the data is used up.
Coverage and networks
Orange Travel sells country, regional and worldwide plans. The country block beside this section shows where its plans work.
It does not run its own network abroad. Its terms say it resells eSIMs and credit from partner operators, and its help centre says your eSIM connects to a local partner network when you arrive, with the partner networks listed on each destination page.
Regional plans such as Europe or Asia cover different countries from one plan to another, so its help centre asks you to check the country list on the plan page. In reply to app reviews, Orange Travel says a phone can sometimes join a network that is not a partner, which can affect quality, and asks you to contact support so it can help with network selection.
Plans and flexibility
There are two kinds of plan. Data-only plans give internet with no phone number. Other plans add a phone number, calls and texts: its registration page lists offers with a French +33 number and with a Polish +48 number, so the number you get may not match the country you visit.
On plans with calls, you dial every number in international format. Outgoing calls and texts use your allowance, and so do incoming calls outside Europe; incoming texts never do. Short, special and premium-rate numbers are not available.
Hotspot is allowed, and its help centre says there is no limit on how much you share, with shared data taken from your plan. WhatsApp keeps working on your usual number, including on data-only plans.
You can top up from the app or the website as often as you like. An eSIM can be topped up again for a later trip as long as it is registered and its last plan ended less than 6 months ago.
Buying, setup and the ID check
You need an Orange Travel account to buy, and its terms say you must be over 18. Its help centre lists Visa and Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and Link. The QR code arrives in the order confirmation email and stays in your account; in the app you can also install the eSIM without a QR code.
Install the eSIM at home and turn on data roaming when you arrive: validity starts on activation at your destination, not at installation. The QR code works once, on one device, and the eSIM cannot be downloaded again if you delete it, so contact support before removing it.
Every line must be registered under French law. You can use the eSIM straight away, but you have 30 days to upload a valid ID card or passport, and verification takes up to 10 days. Its terms say some plans check your ID with facial recognition through its partner Idemia. A line that is not registered within 30 days is suspended and cannot be reactivated.
The Orange Travel app is published by Orange SA on iOS and Android. As of October 2026 it was rated 4.6 out of 5 on the US App Store and 4.1 on Google Play, where some reviews mention a number from another country, dropped connections and too little usage information.
Support and refunds
Its help centre says support is open 24/7 by live chat on the website, in the app and by email at contact@travel-orange.com. Help articles cover registration, installation, top-ups and calls, and many were updated in October 2026.
Refunds depend on use. Its help centre says you can get your money back if the plan has not been used: the phone is not eSIM-compatible, your trip was cancelled or changed, the eSIM was never activated, or a technical problem stopped you from using it. An eSIM installed but never turned on at your destination still counts as unused. Refunds go back to the original payment method within 5 to 15 working days.
Its terms of sale are stricter and older in tone. They say top-ups are final and cannot be refunded, and that disputes about service quality are for the partner operator. A formal complaint must reach Orange Travelers within one month, by registered post to its office in Issy-les-Moulineaux, France.
Is Orange Travel legit?
Yes. Orange Travel is run by Orange Travelers, a company registered in Nanterre, France, and part of the Orange group; its legal notice names Orange SA as editor, and the site is hosted by Orange Business Services. Its terms are governed by French law, with the courts of Paris named for disputes.
Its track record is public. The iOS app has hundreds of ratings and the Android app has more than 100,000 downloads (October 2026), and Orange Travel answers reviews on both stores. The main points to know before buying are the ID registration and the way top-ups restart your validity.
How we score providers

Orange Travel: questions travellers ask
Is Orange Travel legit?
Yes. Orange Travel is run by Orange Travelers, a French company in the Orange group, and its legal notice names Orange SA as editor. Its terms are governed by French law, and its app is published by Orange SA on iOS and Android.
Does Orange Travel need ID?
Yes. French law requires every line to be registered. You can use the eSIM straight away, but you must upload a valid ID card or passport within 30 days, or the line is suspended. Verification takes up to 10 days, as of October 2026.
Does Orange Travel allow hotspot?
Yes. Its help centre says you can share your connection with no limit on how much you share. Everything connected devices use comes out of your plan's data.
Does Orange Travel include a phone number?
Some plans do. Data-only plans have no number. Plans with calls and texts come with a phone number, which can be French (+33) or Polish (+48) depending on the offer, not a number from the country you visit.
Can I top up an Orange Travel eSIM?
Yes, from the app or the website. Data adds up, but each top-up restarts your validity, so the days left on your plan are lost. Top up on the last day of a plan or once the data is used. A registered eSIM can be topped up up to 6 months after its last plan ended.
What is Orange Travel's refund policy?
Its help centre says you can get a refund if your plan has not been used, for example if your trip was cancelled, your phone is not compatible or the eSIM was never activated. Refunds take 5 to 15 working days. Top-ups are final under its terms.
How do I contact Orange Travel?
By live chat on its website, in the Orange Travel app or by email at contact@travel-orange.com. Its help centre says support is available 24/7.
